Men over the age of 50 are more than likely to have a prostate problem (know as prostitis), usually a benign enlargement of the gland. Herbal and nutritional therapies can ease discomfort and may prevent or delay the need for conventional drugs or surgery in many cases of prostitis.
Symptoms of prostitis
The symptoms of prostate inflammation include
- frequent and urgent need to urinate, particularly at night

Causes of prostitis
As men age the prostate enlarges and no one is sure why this is so. But depending on the degree of enlargement, the prostate presses against the urethra and impedes the flow of urine, causing symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Less often men develop prostatitis, which is usually caused by a bacterial infection that starts elsewhere in the urinary tract, or prostate cancer.
These disorders cause urinary complaints because they affect the prostate gland which is located below the bladder and which surrounds the urethra. BPH is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate that occurs in more than 50% of men over 50 years of age. This condition can progress for many years, with little or no symptoms and is not felt to be a risk factor in the development of prostate cancer. But you should consult a doctor to rule out cancer and evaluate your condition if you have any symptoms of a prostate condition. A simple blood test and physical examination will help to diagnose the condition.
