Description
Why choose CONSTIfree?
As CONSTIfree contains a wide variety of natural nutrients, it is ideal for long term use as a high fibre
bowel maintenance formula.
Its beneficial actions include:
•
encouraging waste matter to pass through the body efficiently
•
assisting in tissue repair
•
aiding the digestion of foods and absorption of nutrients
•
supplying the bowel with both probiotics and prebiotics.
CONSTIfree supplies the bowel with high fibre from psyllium husks, which act as a bulking agent in the
bowel. The fibre works like an internal brush, sweeping waste and toxins down the bowel and out of the
body. Psyllium seed husks are a source of soluble fibre and a healthy addition to your daily diet.
This supplement is useful for people with low-fibre diets and those who experience “pellet like” stools and
the feeling of non-evacuation.
Combine with our strong oxygen therapy bowel cleanser, OXY-KLENZ, or herbal cleansers COL-Clear Version
A and COL-Clear Version B.
Understanding the ingredients
Fructo-oligisaccharides / Fructooligosaccharides (FOS)
These are non-digestible carbohydrates or sugars that occur naturally in throughout the plant kingdom in
vegetables such as artichokes, asparagus, salsify, leeks, onions, garlic and chicory. As they are non-
digestible, they pass through the human digestive tract virtually unchanged. When the
fructooligosaccharides reach the colon, they are used by our “good” or “friendly” beneficial bacteria
(known as bifidobacteria or bifidus) for growth and multiplication. These friendly (also called probiotics) in
the digestive tract are required for the complete digestion and absorption of nutrients, detoxification and
elimination processes and help to boost the immune system. As FOS feed these probiotics, they are known
as prebiotics. Studies in the USA and Japan have shown they also help to suppress the production of
intestinal putrefactive substances and have a beneficial effect on cholesterol levels, along with the
absorption action of psyllium.
L-Glutamine (amino acid)
L-Glutamine is a very important amino acid, required by the human body for many repair and maintenance
functions such as:
•
maintaining the tissue integrity of the digestive system
•
providing fuel to the brain
•
supporting the immune system
•
helping to maintain and repair muscle tissue
•
synthesising protein
•
providing a primary fuel source for enterocytes (the cells lining the inside of the small intestine).
The digestive system (stomach, small intestine and bowel) wall lining is constantly being eroded and
irritated by, for example, food particles, parasites, medication and yeast. Over time, small holes can
develop in the gut lining, thereby permitting potentially harmful substances to enter your bloodstream and
access the other parts of your body. This is commonly referred to as “Leaky Gut Syndrome”. L-Glutamine
feeds the gut wall cells, enabling constant replacement and repair and protecting against damage.
Psyllium husk
Psyllium is rich in dietary fibre, providing the extra fibre that so many people need in order to maintain
regular and healthy bowels. Psyllium husk is a water absorbing / retention fibre, which gives bulk to stools
by absorbing water - as much as 20 times its own weight! This gives the bowel wall something to work on
and lets it push matter through smoothly and quickly via peristalsis. Fibre also stimulates natural bacteria in
the bowel. Traditionally most fibre in our diet comes from wheat bran, but for people with food intolerances
/ allergies and sensitive cell walls, the rough wheat bran can cause irritation and sometimes make matters
worse. When water is added to psyllium husks, a soft gel is formed, which helps the unwanted matter in the
colon to move through smoothly, with no straining or discomfort.
Probiotics
These are the “friendly bacteria” that work for you and help your body to function properly in many ways.
Health-food advocates have long recommended using probiotics to help maintain a favourable balance of
“good” versus “bad” bacteria in the digestive system and colon. We all have these bacteria inside us and
they are continually competing with each other for dominance. The delicate balance can be upset by many
factors, such as a course of antibiotics, contaminated food and even stress. If this imbalance isn't
corrected, many common bowel ailments can result. For example, loose bowel, constipation or even a
candida albicans yeast infection. Studies have confirmed that Lactobacillus Bacteria and FOS are even
more effective when taken together - known as the synbiotic effect.
Digestive enzymes
These have been added to help support the body's digestive system following food intake. Digestive enzymes
break down the food we eat and nutrients are better absorbed if that food is digested properly. By contrast,
poor digestion can lead to constipation, a bloated feeling, achy stomach, excessive wind, low energy
levels and generally an uncomfortable feeling.
The digestive enzymes included in CONSTIfree are:
•
Amylase - digests carbohydrates
•
Protease - digests proteins
•
Invertase - breaks down sucrose to fructose and glucose
•
Alpha Galactosidase - to aid digestion of problematic starches in beans and some vegetables
•
Cellulase - breaks down cellulose. Does not occur naturally in the human digestive tract
•
Hemi Cellulase - see cellulase
•
Phytase - an enzyme that can break down the indigestible phytic acid (phytate) found in grains and
oil seeds
•
Lipase - for fat digestion. People with pancreatic insufficiency require Lipase
•
Papain - helps to digest proteins.

What is constipation? Constipation involves fewer than 3 bowel movements per week and often straining when passing the stool. It is a common disorder of the digestive
system, which mostly affects women (especially during pregnancy), the elderly and young children, toddlers and babies. The degree of constipation varies from person to
person. It can range from acute constipation (which is usually caused by insufficient peristalsis) to chronic constipation (which is more serious and severe).
Constipation symptoms: Chronic constipation usually involves a variety of symptoms, including abdominal pain, rectal discomfort, bloating, nausea, loss of appetite and a
general feeling of fatigue. Acute constipation tends simply to display the symptoms of the constipation itself, e.g. difficult bowel motions, infrequent bowel movements, hard,
dry and pebble-like stools and a sensation of incomplete evacuation.
Causes of constipation: There can be any number of causes of constipation. For example, IBS constipation - people suffering with Irritable Bowel Syndrome have a collection of
symptoms which comprise a digestive disorder. As a result, it is not surprising that they suffer from constipation and it is often accompanied by bloating, stomach pain and
alternating diarrhea. Other causes can be lack of exercise and medication (including antibiotics and hormone therapy).
Waste matter is formed in the colon, from the remains of foodstuffs that have passed through the small intestine and had their nutrients absorbed. The colon’s main task is to
remove excess liquid from its contents. A large number of beneficial bacteria (probiotics) colonise the colon and assist with the digestion of any remaining nutrients. Dietary
fibre and water are required for the healthy formation of stool. Insoluble fibre increases the weight, bulk and softness of the stool, while soluble fibre dissolves to form a thick,
gummy solution which is good for lowering cholesterol, slowing the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream and binding with toxins in our gut.
Constipation dangers: If faeces remain in the colon for too long, causing constipation, large amounts of toxins will be re-absorbed back into the bloodstream - this is called auto-
intoxication or self poisoning.
Constipation in toddlers and constipation in children: Children often suffer from constipation for a number of reasons. Sometimes the reason is unknown (idiopathic
constipation), other times it can be due to an underlying disease or condition or to use of medication (such as antibiotics), which can disrupt the delicate balance of gut
microflora (friendly bacteria versus harmful bacteria) and cause digestive upset.
Help with constipation: There are natural constipation remedies and specific herbs and nutrients that can induce healthy colon activity. CONSTIfree is a natural constipation
remedy and can provide constipation help and instant constipation relief. This is because it is high in beneficial dietary fibre (from psyllium husks) and supplies the bowel with
both probiotics and prebiotics for healthy digestion and regular bowel movements. Enemas for constipation are also available. For example, home enema kits act as a form
of colon cleanser, useful as part of cleanse and detox programmes.
Foods for constipation: As well as natural constipation remedies and natural treatments for constipation, it can also be helpful to include in your diet specific herbs and foods
for constipation. These include fennel seed, ginger root and peppermint leaf, which all have natural laxative effects, as well as high fibre foods like apricots, figs, papaya,
peaches, pears, pineapple, prunes, whole grains, flaxseed, artichoke hearts, asparagus, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, green beans and peas.
